Serenity Bay BBQ serves similar fare on the adults-only stretch of the island. Spending the day in a cabana on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island is one of the most extravagant ways to experience Disney’s brand of magic. Despite the high price tag for renting the cabanas, the included amenities and impeccable service make it worth the price. Private beachfront space and access to exclusive amenities offer an unforgettable way to enjoy time spent on Disney’s private island. From lounging in paradise to playing family-friendly games, a day in a cabana can make a lasting impression. Parents and kids alike will be delighted to know that the island operates youth clubs just like onboard the ships.

I’m packing my bags now for when this island destination debuts in summer 2024! In case you missed it, here’s a look at some of the first sailings that will visit Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Treasures of Eleuthera will be the retail shop featuring locally made gifts and artisan crafts. What I really love is how the shop will spotlight Bahamian artists through an array of unique items that families will be able to bring home with them as a special keepsake. Disney Lookout Cay is Disney Cruise Line’s newest, one-of-a-kind retreat on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. As soon as guests step foot on this breathtaking island destination, they will discover a celebration of Bahamian storytelling, artistry and culture.

Everything You Need to Know About Disney’s Private Island

You can rent various watercraft for 30 minutes at a time, including kayaks ($20-$25), paddleboats ($20-$25), a 2-person aqua trike ($30 for ages 5+), and a stand-up paddleboard. There are two family beaches, side by side, separated by Pelican Point. There are lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beaches, or you can reserve a cabana. With the new Disney Wish cruise ship, Disney Cruise Line now offers passengers another cruise ship with exciting Caribbean and Castaway Cay itineraries. Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic, and Disney Wish cruise ships all sail to Castaway Cay on Disney cruises from Florida.

Since Disney Cruise Line operates the entire island, almost everything is already included in your cruise price. You’ll need to use your Key to the World Card (linked to your stateroom account) if you wish to pay for premium beverages, souvenirs, or excursions. You will only need cash if you mail a letter from the Castaway Cay post office.

Disney’s private island has enough free activities and food to keep you fed and happy all day long. However, while it won’t cost you anything to access the Snorkeling Lagoon, snorkel gear is extra. Dining is included during your visit to Castaway Cay, and Cookie’s BBQ and Cookie’s Too serve as the island’s two main dining venues. Located near each of the family beaches, these eateries serve up summertime favorites like cheeseburgers, barbecued chicken, fresh salads, and fruit beneath shady pavilions. Disney Cruise Line’s iconic soft serve is also free-flowing here.

What are the best Castaway Cay things to do?

There are many activities and attractions on Disney’s private island of Castaway Cay, some of which are free, and some require an additional fee. If you’re on the hunt for souvenirs, Castaway Cay’s shops offer beach staples, exclusive Castaway Cay merchandise, and even goods with local flair. Plus, merchandise can be sent directly to your stateroom for the most convenient shopping experience.

With all of the different Disney theme parks, a Disney Cruise may not have been on your radar. However, a Disney Cruise should be on your Disney bucket list for all of the reasons we stated above and more. The magic of Disney, the exceptional Disney service, Disney entertainment and characters, amazing ports of call, a tropical getaway on Castaway Cay, themed cruises, and so much more. A three-night preview cruise on the Disney Magic from Fort Lauderdale is scheduled for June 6, 2024 and will feature a sneak peek of Lighthouse Point with limited access to some areas. Throughout Summer 2024, Lighthouse Point will be a featured stop on select three-, four- and five-night sailings to The Bahamas and Caribbean on the Disney Magic out of Fort Lauderdale.

It includes the ad-free versions of Hulu and Disney+ and the ad-supported version of ESPN+ for $24.99 per month. From Disney Park announcements to Disney Hotel and resort news to made-up Disney partnerships, you can be assured that anything you read here is not true, real, or accurate, but it is fun. So technically our slogan The Moused Trusted Name in Disney News isn't true, but we thought it was creative and funny, so we are running with it.

Beginner’s Guide to Disney Castaway Cay

Those looking to cruise to Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, have plenty of options. The dining experience is integral to any cruise, and it’s no different at Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay’s fee-based activities, excursions, and cabanas are in high demand, so book as soon as you’re able. Guests can enjoy Castaway Cay even more by adding an extra fee activity to your itinerary, such as renting bicycles or reserving a cabana. You can also rent kayaks, paddleboards, water floats, and water trikes on-site to explore the pristine waters surrounding this tropical paradise.

Still, even with the island’s one-ship limit, Castaway Cay can feel pretty busy, especially if you’re hanging out on the Family Beach, which is on the part of the island closest to where the cruise ship docks. An early arrival will help you avoid a battle for a beach chair or, for a relaxing retreat away from the crowds, splurge on one of the Castaway Cay cabanas. This ensures that the island isn’t completely overrun with guests, turning your lazy day at the beach into an overcrowded, stressful and sandy mess. Guests can walk the entirety of the developed part of Castaway Cay, but there are also trams available for easier transportation. The first route goes from the dock to Scuttle’s Cove — near the front of the family beaches — and then to Pelican’s Point, about halfway down the family beaches. The second tram route goes back and forth between Pelican’s Point and Serenity Bay, the adult beach.

In the summer, temperatures top out around 90°F, while winters dip to the 60s to 80s. The water at Castaway Cay is similarly pleasant, ranging from as low as 68°F to as high as 86°F. The observation tower is where the two nature trails reconnect in the middle of the island. At the top are binoculars, which you can use to look around the island and at the ship in the distance. Scuttle’s Cove is the Castaway Cay equivalent of the Oceaneer’s Club on board — and kids will see the same Cast Members here at Scuttle’s Cove as they do on the ship. You check kids in and out of Scuttle’s Cove just like you do with the Oceaneer’s Club.

Just like on the Disney ships, there is an adults-only area on Disney island, Serenity Bay, for those seeking a little peace and quiet. Located about a mile from the main beach, this is the place to go for grown-up time, as well as beachside lounge chairs, two-person hammocks and possibly even a massage in one of the cabanas. Be sure to order a Castaway Cay Konk Kooler, a blend of rum and tropical fruit juices, at Air Bar.

However, adult guests can purchase a beer or wine drink package should they choose to, though neither is all-inclusive. Passengers can save up to 25% off when they purchase a wine or beer package. The beer package onboard also comes with a Disney Cruise Line-branded beer stein mug. Onboard my Disney Fantasy cruise, I was able to see three different Broadway-style theater shows, all of which were fun and featured a talented cast of performers. My favorite shows were the theater renditions of Disney's Aladdin and Frozen.

The people you encounter on Castaway Cay include landscapers, custodians, customer service representatives, and others who keep it running smoothly. There is also an official Bahamian post office on the island with postal workers. Today, Castaway Cay remains one of Disney’s most popular destinations, explaining why so many people travel to the Bahamas on Disney Cruise Line.

From what I saw, the family beach cabanas could be a great way to have a more relaxing, less crowded experience on Castaway Cay. The Serenity Bay cabanas seemed less of an upgrade, given that the beach was empty and all the services are so close. In addition, the Extreme Getaway Package combines a one-hour stingray adventure with snorkel equipment, bicycle and float or inner-tube rentals. The cost is $95 for kids and adults ages 10 and up or $73 for kids ages 5 to 9. An adults-only beach, Serenity Bay, is on the adjacent side of the island, open to the sea, and separate from the family beach.

Castaway Cay is about 1,000 acres — though not all of it's developed — so it can take a while to talk to and from the ship to different spots on the island. Cruise bookings are predicted to reach record highs this year, but not all itineraries are created equally — especially if you're looking to sail with Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise Line aggressively proceeding with its fleet expansion (not to mention the surprise acquisition of another partially-completed ship) made it likely that Lighthouse Point was going forward. Still, we hadn’t heard anything about it and were surprised when no updates were offered at the most recent D23 Expo. Respect for the environment is at the heart of the design at Lighthouse Point.
